Love that Clean Water

Boston's tap water passes a few quality tests with flying colors.

Today is Wednesday, June 15. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Drink up -- straight from the tap. The city's water is "excellent" according to results from annual water quality testing conducted by the Massachusetts Water Resources Association in 2010. The MWRA says Boston's tap water met every federal and state drinking water standard for 2010 and has been below the Lead Action Level for the past seven years. A full report on the water is being mailed to every household, but you can also take a look online.

2. So even though last week was Charlestown Pride Week, we've yet to hit the real Bunker Hill Day on the calendar. That's Friday, June 17. But as of last year, when the legislature voted on the issue, it's no longer observed (technically) as a state or Suffolk County holiday. Which is another way of saying, everyone's got to work. Our columnist Jack Kelly has some words on the matter and a few ideas on how officials might have taken a more productive approach on the issue. . (He really likes when you do that.)

3. Judging by the discussion Charlestown's had over bike lanes, it's clear quite a few residents are interested, if not actively participating, in a commute by bicycle. This Friday is Bike Friday in Boston. Officials are organizing "commuter convoys" around the city. The idea is you get to ride into work with the help of friends and neighbors (a safety in numbers sort of thing) with a quick stop at City Hall Plaza first, for a free breakfast. The safe convoys have been setup all over the Greater Boston area -- but not in Charlestown. Wanna change that? 5. Good news! Mostly sunny today with a high of 71.
