Meet the Schools with the Charlestown Mothers Association

Plus, Charlestown ranks among the few communities where median home sales have gone up, even through the recession.

Today is Friday, Sept. 23. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Got questions about which public, private or charter school is right for you and your kids? The Charlestown Mothers Association will have answers for you -- Monday night at the third annual event. Representatives from more than 30 public, private and charter schools will be on hand in the community center from 6 to 8 p.m. Want more details? .

2. Charlestown was identified as one of the few communities in Mass. where the median sale price on homes has consistently gone up, even through the recesssion. The median sales price in 2005: $547,500. During the same period in 2011: $630,500. That's a 15 percent increase, according to the Globe.

3. Plans for a public market by the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway are moving along. The Public Market Commission is holding a community meeting Monday at 6 p.m. at the State House to discuss how the market could complement the Haymarket, food labeling and certification, transportation to and from the market, and educational programming. The market is expected to create significant construction jobs in the near future and up to 200 permanent jobs when it opens.
