  • Movie Mondays: Check out some of Hollywood’s classic films on Mondays in August at the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.). The Aug. 5 film will be “Gaslight” (1944). This event will start at 2:30 p.m. and is free and open to the community.

  • Whole Foods Bread Breaking: The new Charlestown Whole Foods, 51 Austin St., will open for business this week, with a grand opening and "bread breaking" ceremony set Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 9:45 a.m. Local and company officials will say a few words, bread will be broken, shared and eaten and the store will open for business at 10 a.m. Five Charlestown nonprofits will receive 5 percent of the day's profits.
  • Wynn Casino Talk: The Charlestown Waterfront Coalition meets at Building 114 on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. At the Aug. 7 meeting, representatives from Wynn LLC will present plans for their resort casino in Everett. There will be a short discussion afterward. This meeting is open to the community.

THURSDAY

  • Mammogram van: MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center will partner with the Dana Farber Mammogram Van to provide basic screening for women age 40 and up in Charlestown on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call 617-724-8168 to register. 

FRIDAY

  • Teen Game Time: Teenagers can drop by the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) on Friday, Aug. 9 from 2-4 p.m. to play a variety of board games. This program is free, with no registration required.
