New Moms: Baby Boot Camp is Coming
Plus, local media writes loving (fictional) letters between the city and Todd English.

Today is Tuesday, May 3. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. Last week I brought you news of coming to the Navy Yard. It's a workout program geared toward moms with, of course, strollers. Today I present you with , which is launching in the neighborhood, too. What is this? It’s a 60-minute workout designed to help new moms get back into shape after having a baby. Here are a few more details on Baby Boot Camp: “Each workout includes abdominal exercises, mat-based Pilates and to help improve core strength. The boot camp-style formula increases strength and tones muscles while boosting energy levels and increasing cardiovascular endurance. The stroller, resistance tubes (and even your child!) are used as an integral part of the workout." Wanna check it out? Head over to Doherty Park on Bunker Hill Street at 9 a.m. on May 6. The event is free. Baby Boot Camp franchise owner, Jennifer McArdle will lead a workout, followed by a demo class for the kids by Babycakes of Charlestown. There will also be raffles and giveaway – and special class pricing for anyone who signs up at the event. You can check out babybootcamp.com for more info.
2. To most people in Charlestown the sight of a boarded up Olives in City Square hasn’t been very funny. But last month, after to take away owner/celebrity chef Todd English’s liquor license, some observers are having a bit of a laugh. Boston Magazine riffed on the incident in a fictional letter from the city to English, “Dear Todd English: It’s Not Us, It’s You.” Here’s an excerpt: Basically, things aren’t working out the way we’d hoped. You’re simply not the chef we fell in love with back in 1984; in fact, we sometimes wonder whether you even like cooking anymore. ... Hit that old Freedom Trail once and for all. The jokesters at the Globe’s food blog couldn’t resist writing a fictional response from English, to the city. You can read that here, but here’s a taste: Honey, look. We had a misunderstanding. Happens all the time. You thought it was just you and me, together forever.... I've always admired your loyalty, Boston. Only you would wait 86 years for a championship baseball team. For the record, English has a couple more weeks to get Olives open – or else that liquor license really will be revoked.

3. It’s been a bit of a crazy couple of days in terms of news, locally and around the globe. In case you missed word on some of the police activity in the neighborhood, let me direct you to two stories: Over the weekend we reported on a . A young man was shot (possibly in the head, though we haven’t had confirmation) and taken to MGH for “life-threatening injuries.” No news, yet, on his condition. Police haven’t made any arrests either. And on Monday, over in the Navy Yard, the city’s on the commuter boat repair. It was a little chaotic at rush hour, but fortunately, it turned out to be nothing.
4. In the midst of all that madness, I am happy to share this beautiful set of photos with you: On Saturday a Charlestown legend was honored with the . Local photographer Nicole O’Neil was there and she got some really sweet shots. Please, take a look. It’ll brighten your mood, I promise.
5. Today's forecast: Overcast with showers at times. High 67. Chance of rain 40 percent.
