Police Nab Suspect with 9mm Hand Gun
An anonymous tip led officers to a suspect with an unlicensed firearm.

Thursday, April 14
- A home on Bartlett Street was broken into, police said, though, after investigation, it appeared that nothing was taken. The victim came home after work to find that his bathroom window had been smashed and that a ladder that is usually on the second floor roof was resting against the house where his bathroom window is located.

- A juvenile was arrested at 9:15 a.m. at 50 Walford Way, police said, following a report of assault and battery. Because of the suspect’s age, his name cannot be published.
- Jon David Mercogliano of Medford was arrested at 1:18 p.m. at the corner of West School Street and Rutherford Avenue on Friday and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. Police made the arrest based on an anonymous tip that the suspect would be in possession of an illegal firearm. Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection and found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in Mercogliano’s trunk.
- Police responded to a report of vandalism at 103 13th Street around 3 p.m.

- Police responded to a report of auto theft at 41 McNulty Court around midnight.
- Police responded to a report of assault and battery at 9 Walford Way around 7:20 p.m.

- Police responded to a report of assault and battery around 3:25 p.m. at 26 O’Brien Court. Officers responded to a separate report of assault and battery around 6:40 p.m. at 44 Charles River Avenue.
- Police responded to a report of auto theft at 225 Medford Street around 10 a.m.
Monday, April 18
- Steven Shea, of Forest Street in Charlestown, was arrested at 12:46 a.m. on Main Street and charged with larceny/shoplifting (under $50). Officers responded to a report of shoplifting at a convenience store. When they arrived on the scene, they saw the suspect walking out of the store. When they approached Shea, he spit out food and dropped the remnants of a sandwich on the ground, according to the police report. Police brought Shea back to the store, where an employee identified him as the person who stole a sandwich and pickle a few minutes earlier. Upon searching Shea, police found needles and a bottle of steroids, according to the police report.
