Shop Charlestown-wide Yard Sale This Saturday

The event will support the local efforts of nonprofit organization Trinity Recovery for Women.

With warm weather expected and the first of June arriving this weekend, local residents can get out and celebrate one of the hallmarks of summer: the yard sale.

But put your walking shoes on and get ready for some serious shopping, because there is not one, not two, but 20 yard sales planned in Charlestown on Saturday, June 1, part of the first “Townwide” Yard Sale to benefit local nonprofit organization Trinity Recovery for Women.

For a $15 donation, Charlestown households could sign up to be included in the event and have their sale listed on a flyer posted around the neighborhood. Yard sale hosts then get to keep their profits.

From Adams to Washington Street, there are 20 households participating with yard sales on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A map of those sales can be viewed above, and a list can also be viewed on the flyer in the image gallery.

Also as part of the "Townwide" event, a huge yard sale will be held at 259 Main St., with items for sale donated by local residents. All proceeds from this sale will benefit Trinity Recovery for Women.

“There’s incredible stuff,” said Diane Grant, chairman of the nonprofit's board of directors. “We have some wonderful women’s clothing; we have Coach bags and cashmere sweaters. We have Lenox china and Waterford crystal. It’s just unbelievable.”

Trinity Recovery for Women, which got its start with support from the Charlestown Recovery House, recently secured its own 501c3 status, Grant said.

“We’re working with a lot of the residents of the Dennis McLaughlin House, providing yoga, meditation, acupuncture and other integrative recovery methods that often health insurance doesn’t cover but that we’re finding is key for recovery,” Grant said.
