The MGC will discuss the decision to award Wynn a casino license.

State Rep. Dan Ryan (D-Charlestown) is holding a meeting for local residents next week, to which he has invited representatives of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge reported Monday.

The meeting is set to be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at The Schrafft Center in the Flatley Company Cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting, according to the Patriot-Bridge, is for the MGC to offer information on the recent move to award Wynn Resorts a casino license. Last month, members of the MGC voted in favor of awarding Wynn a casino license to build a resort-style casino in Everett. The proposed casino has thus far caused debate among Charlestown residents and officials, with the MGC previously deeming Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts “suitable” to obtain a casino license in eastern Massachusetts.

Charlestown residents have responded to the move with comments, and nearly 1,000 have weighed in on a poll asking if they support the move.
