The Potter and The Painter Opens at StoveFactory

Plus, a guerrilla-gardening group is planning to cover Sullivan Square with hundreds of flowers this weekend.

Today is Thursday, April 28. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Go ahead, get your art on. This weekend (and next -- for a special two weekend exhibition) there's a new show at the StoveFactory Gallery on Medford Street: The opening reception is scheduled for Friday night at 6 p.m. And I know I say this every time there's a new show opening at the StoveFactory, but it's really true: If you haven't experienced this space yet, you should make a point of stopping by. It's a gem in the neighborhood. The show runs over the weekend from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

2. A couple weeks back I mentioned a group called the Black Pansies that had promised to cover the wasteland that is Sullivan Square with hundreds of flowers -- guerrilla-gardening style. The "stealth beautification," as the group calls it on the Black Pansies web site, was postponed due to chilly temps. But they're back on track for this weekend. And you're invited. At 8 p.m. on Saturday, they'll be at Sullivan Square with 500 flowers. They want you to show up with trowels, a willingness to get a little dirty -- and you can bring your own favorite flowers to plant, too. The goal is to get 1,000 in the ground. I don't know about you, but I kind of can't wait to see this.

3. And speaking of beautification: Boston Shines could use some help at this weekend. At 8:30 a.m., they're hoping a group of volunteers from the neighborhood will come for a cleanup. Coffee, gloves and trash bags will be provided and organizers say it shouldn't last more than an hour.

4. This is just cool. A local business, Bunker Workshop, is featured in the current issue of the design magazine Dwell -- a special issue, in fact, "100 Kitchens We Love." The issue also highlights the home kitchen of Charlestown resident Chris Greenawalt, the designer behind Bunker Workshop. If you're even a little bit of a home cook, brace yourself -- you're going to want this when you see it. Check out a slideshow of the kitchen here. Dwell also published a recipe from Chris and his wife Danielle, which you can find online as well.

5. It's going to stay warm today and there are still threats of thunderstorms in the forecast. High around 67 with a 30 percent chance of rain.
