Wait -- Is that Rod Stewart?
No, it's a Rod Stewart impersonator. This Friday at the Knights, he'll be playing the Knights for a Memorial Hall fundraiser.
Today is Wednesday, June 1. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you. There's a fundraiser this Friday night for the Abraham Lincoln Post #11 (Memorial Hall) -- and Rick Larrimore, a serious Rod Stewart impersonator, is providing the entertainment. The show starts at 7 p.m. at the Knights and all proceeds go to the restoration of , one of Charlestown's oldest buildings.
2. I would like to bring your attention to some the dialogue readers are having about an incident at Speedy Chen's. On May 20, Billy Chen, the owner, was who was loitering on Main Street and broke his restaurant's window. There's been a lot of back and forth about blame and what needs to be done. This is a tough issue for the community, but one that obviously warrants discussion. and please, contribute respectfully.
3. If you haven't been to the end of the Navy Yard recently, you haven't seen the amazing progress that's been made on the project. Nine stories of steel are on the site now and when you look at the structure next to the rendering that hangs on the fence outside the construction zone, you can really get a feel for what it will look like when it's done next year. I posted yesterday if you can't get down thre for a look yourself.
4. Registration for the summer youth program at Courageous Sailing is officially closed for the season, however, you can still sign up for private lessons and membership programming. The summer schedule is up at www.courageoussailing.org. Remember: Their second location at the pond in Jamaica Plain offers sailboat and kayak rentals.
