Week in Review: Fatal Shooting; Development Plans for Tavern on the Water, Ropewalk
A look at some of the top stories on Charlestown Patch last week.

Life gets busy, and Patch certainly understands that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Charlestown Patch this week:
- Man Fatally Shot on Monument Street—Boston Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man on Monument Street that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
- Charlestown Shooting Victim Remembered—Though Boston Police have not officially released the name of the man shot on Charlestown’s Monument Street late Tuesday night, residents around town seem to know exactly who he was, and they’re raising funds to help his family in the aftermath of his death.
- Tavern on the Water May Get New Owner—Tavern on the Water could reopen with a new name, a new owner and a new menu—as early as this summer but more likely not until the fall.
- Charlestown-wide Yard Sale Rescheduled—The event, which benefits Trinity Recovery For Women, has been postponed from this Saturday because of anticipated rain. The new date is June 1.
- —A new development team has stepped forward with plans to renovate the long-vacant Ropewalk building in the Charlestown Navy Yard, hoping to turn it into apartments with a museum mural located the length of the building.
- Residents: Parking Top Priority in Navy Yard—Before any presentations were given or questions were solicited at the Wednesday night meeting on a new proposal for the Ropewalk Building, one Charlestown resident spoke up about parking.
- Charlestown Health Study Results Revealed—After a year and a half of forums, surveys and focus groups, organizers of the Charlestown Community Health Assessment revealed study results on Thursday, May 2 and asked local residents to help turn that data into meaningful steps forward in improving the health of all Charlestown residents.
- Police Reports: Man Caught Breaking Into Police Car—Police arrested a man after he began rummaging through an officer’s unmarked vehicle while they conducted an investigation in the area of Spice and Cambridge streets on Sunday, May 5.
- Scrutinizing the War on Drugs at CHS—Students in the Diploma Plus program at Charlestown High School recently participated in an interdisciplinary week of study called “Ecological Systems: Scrutinizing the War on Drugs.” Students looked at the effects of substance abuse, imprisonment, and poverty on individuals, neighborhoods, cities, and America as a whole.
- Bunker Hill College Names New President—Bunker Hill Community College has named a new president. Following a six-month search, the college—with campuses in Charlestown, Chelsea and the South End—has named Dr. Pam Y. Eddinger as its new president.
