Week in Review: New Hayes Square Restaurant, Suspicious Letters and Charlestown Pride Schedule

A look at some of the top stories on Charlestown Patch last week.

Life gets busy, and Patch certainly understands that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Charlestown Patch this week:

  1. —Business partners John Paine and Michael Cooney announced at Tuesday night’s Charlestown Neighborhood Council meeting that they are looking to open the business at 5-7 Moulton St., next to McCarthy Bros. Liquors.
  2. Charlestown High School Among Schools to Receive Suspicious Letters—Charlestown High School was among the Boston Public Schools that received suspicious letters on Thursday.
  3. Police Reports: Man With Knife Attacks Deaf Woman—A deaf woman on Medford Street was attacked by a man with a knife while she was taking out the trash on Saturday, June 1.
  4. 2013 Bunker Hill Day/Charlestown Pride Week Schedule—Bunker Hill Day is coming up on June 17, and there are plenty of great activities happening during the week leading up to the holiday.
  5. —This week starts the Townie Association’s campaign, "Paint the Town: Red, White and Blue." All businesses and residents along the parade route are being asked to adorn their properties with patriotic decorations in honor of the 2013 Battle of Bunker Hill Parade (June 16).
  6. Race Is On For Mayor of Charlestown—The Townie Association has revived the beloved tradition, Mayor of Charlestown. Ballots have been distributed to nominees for two weeks and there are reports of several strong campaign organizations forming.
  7. Jack Kelly Holds City Council Campaign Fundraiser—Jack Kelly held the first official event for his campaign for at-large Boston city councilor Friday night, with a combination graduation party and fundraiser at Old Sully’s.
  8. Mayor Menino Out of Hospital—Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is out of the hospital after having elective prostate surgery last Friday to reduce the size of his prostate. The mayor released a YouTube video saying he was out of the hospital and staying at the Parkman House on Beacon Street, and meeting with staff members.
  9. —Ten Boston mayoral candidates offered their opinions on the hiring of the next Boston Public Schools superintendent, as well as other education issues, during a public forum held Wednesday night.
  10. —Gabriel Gomez and Edward Markey engaged Wednesday in their first debate before the U.S. Senate special election later this month, and the tone was markedly similar to the tone of the overall campaign thus far.
