A look at some of the top stories on Charlestown Patch last week.

  2. —Coming off of a solid road start to the season, the Boston Red Sox played their first home game of the year on Monday, April 8, the same day Boston’s popular bike share system opens for the season
  3. Spaulding Rehab Grand Opening Set April 21—Charlestown residents are invited to come get to know their new Navy Yard neighbor, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, during a community health fair and open house on Sunday, April 21. 
  4. Charlestown Man Faces More Child Pornography Charges—A Charlestown man is facing additional child pornography possession charges following his arraignment Friday in Suffolk Superior Court.
  5. —Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will have surgery on his broken right fibula, according to WBZ
  6. Police Reports: Employees Tackle Would-Be Thief—Two employees tackled a man after he tried to steal change from a Bunker Hill Street business on Thursday, April 4.
  7. Police Reports: Weapon Found at O’Meara Court—Police were called to the area of O’Meara Court on Thursday, April 4 at around 12:15 p.m. for the report of a found weapon. At the scene, officers located a weapon in the bushes. The item was processed and removed from the scene.
  8. Menino Delivers Final Budget Proposal—Boston Mayor Thomas Menino presented his last fiscal year budget—of $2.6 billion—with laughs, joking about the mayoral race with candidates and potential candidates in the room.

  • Dorchester Community Organizer Running For Mayor—Longtime Dorchester community organizer Bill Walczak has announced that he is running for Boston mayor, adding his name to a growing list of candidates.
  • Flaherty Considering Run for At-Large Seat—Former mayoral candidate and Boston City Council president Michael Flaherty is considering seeking an at-large city council seat after ruling out running for mayor.
  • Arroyo Kicks Off 'Grassroots' Mayoral Campaign—City Councilor Felix G. Arroyo officially entered his name into the race at a press conference at SEIU Local 615 on Tuesday morning. If elected, Arroyo, who lives in Jamaica Plain, would be Boston’s first Latino mayor.
  • City Councilor Mike Ross Running for Boston Mayor—District 8 City Councilor Mike Ross announced his candidacy for Boston mayor on Thursday.
