What's new about the Bunker Hill Day Parade this year?
Organizers are trying to encourage a stronger "community element.” The parade committee is inviting all community organizations, including clubs, schools, youth organizations, sports teams, faith-based groups, non-profits, and others to join the parade and show their Charlestown pride.
Any organization interested in marching should call George Morton, Community Division Coordinator, at 857-205-0813, or email gmorton207@comcast.net to reserve their space.

Groups can carry a banner, have a vehicle, pull a float, wear their uniforms, sing, dance, perform, and/or sponsor another group or marching unit.
Many years ago, the Horribles were an important component to the parade. The Horribles consisted of young local residents who would voluntarily dress up as funny characters to bring a comedic element to the parade. The parade committee is interested in bringing back this tradition, but organizers need young people to volunteer.

This year, the parade will honor all veterans of war – especially those from Charlestown. Charlestown has always been known for its men’s sacrifice. In World War II, Charlestown sent more men to fight than any other one-square mile in America. Even today, there are countless men and women from Charlestown who are serving their country; some are even deployed in the Middle East. Along with active duty military servicemen, Charlestown veterans from wars passed will also be marching in the parade.
The parade committee is also hoping to form a veteran’s color guard and is also seeking more veterans to march in this year’s parade. If interested, again, get in touch with Arthur Hurley.
