Working Theater Hosts 'Caesarian Section' for Two More Nights

The Polish theater group Teatr ZAR is staging a limited run at the local venue this week.

Today is Tuesday, May 31. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. Go, go, go to the Charlestown Working Theater tonight (or tomorrow) for two last performances of Caesarian Section by Teatr Zar, a Polish theater group visiting the neighborhood venue this week. You can read a review of the show in the Boston Globe and buy tickets at the Working Theater’s web site. Here’s a snippet from the Globe: "The troupe combines early Christian polyphony, onstage musicians, and concepts of theater and movement developed by the late Polish innovator Jerzy Grotowski. … Boiled down to its essence, the idea here is that at its deepest level, theater is about hearing as much as seeing, and that the body of an actor singing communicates on a more profound level."

2. Well, that was a glorious holiday weekend. In preparation for the next big summer-time holiday, I bring you this announcement, from the USS Constitution. The USS Constitution sets sail annually on July 4 to Castle Island. Only a handful of folks win a spot aboard the warship for the special trip. If you’re not one of them, you can get a spot on board one of the two vessels that will follow the Constitution – for $75. Lunch is provided. The trip is sponsored by Boston Harbor Cruises. Museum members receive $10 discount. For more info, click here.

3. This weekend would have been a fine one for a dip in a local swimming hole. Once upon a time, Charlestown had one – and it was supported by the city. Take a look at to learn more. Some great historic shots there too.

4. Speaking of the beach, I got an email a few days ago from Steve “Virgil” Virgilio, who heads up the ROC Teen Program. Virgil just took the kids to the Jersey Shore for what he said was one of their best trips yet. Looks like they had a lot of fun. (See the photo attached to this story!)
