2016 Census Documents Coming to Your Mailbox Soon

Chelmsford's annual state-required census document will be mailed this month.

It’s a new year and time for a new census in the Town of Chelmsford.

Each year, the state requires towns to verify and update the name, address, age and occupation of all residents. In Chelmsford, that is done via mail. All residents should receive documents to fill out later this month.

While you cannot register to vote with the census form, failing to return the form can cause your name to be removed from the active voter list. Additionally, compliance with this state requirement provides proof of residence to protect veterans’ bonuses, housing for the elderly and related benefits. Sometimes people need to prove prior residence for a particular period, by answering the census you will create the record of your period of residency in Chelmsford.
