Bank Robbery on Chelmsford Street

The alleged assailant may potentially be the Merrimack Valley Bank Robber who has hit several banks over the past few weeks.

We are getting reports that at approximately 2:30 p.m. at Eastern Bank on Chelmsfor Street, a white male wearing a scarf and dark clothing fled on foot from after holding up the bank at gunpoint.

Patch will attempt to gain more information on the incident.

The suspect may potentially be the Merrimack Valley Bank Robber, who allegedly hit Bank of America on Littleton Road in Westford yesterday as well.

UPDATE: The suspect is described according to police scanner accounts as having a grey scarf and a "Hispanic sounding accent", he fled on foot from Chelmsford Street to Glen Avenue.

Police were stationed along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, and State Police have been notified to keep an eye on I-495 and Route 3 and Lowell detectives were notified due to the suspect's proximity to the border.

UPDATE: The suspect was described as approximately 5"6, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants and was described as smelling of liquor.

Police also investigated the apartments near Stop and Shop.

UPDATE 4:57 p.m. - Police are indicating the robbery happened earlier, at approximately 2:10 p.m. and they are saying the robbery may be related to the Merrimack Valley Bank Robber incidents.
