Chelmsford Has a New Fire Chief

Selectmen unanimously approve appointment of Deputy Fire Chief Gary Ryan as the next fire chief for the town of Chelmsford.

Come July 1, Chelmsford will have a new fire chief.

The Board of Selectmen this week unanimously approved the recommendation of Deputy Fire Chief Gary Ryan as the town’s next fire chief, the Lowell Sun is reporting.

Ryan will take over when current Fire Chief Michael Curren retires at the end of this month. Ryan has been a member of the Chelmsford Fire Department for more than two decades, most recently serving as deputy fire chief.

Curren, who is set to retire this month, was appointed chief in 2010. He was previously deputy fire chief in town. Curren has served on the Chelmsford Fire Department since 1976.

Curren’s tenure as chief began in Oct. 2010 when then chief Jack Parow was appointed president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and retired from the Chelmsford Fire Department.
