Chelmsford Operating Budget Approved for $114 Million

Town Meeting got underway on Monday night with finances making up the majority of the discussion.

Chelmsford's operating budget for Fiscal Year 2015 passed by a wide margin at the first night of Chelmsford's Town Meeting on Monday night, a budget of $114 million that will begin unbalanced by $1 million to account for employee retirement costs.

The Lowell Sun reported that the operating budget was approved by a margin of 105-41, though some residents in attendance believed the budget is too high considering it is a 45 percent increase over the last decade.

According to the Lowell Sun report, the Chelmsford Public Schools budget is up $740,000 to a total of $50 million. Voters also approved Chelmsford's $2.6 million share of the Nashoba Tech budget, along with a share of a $2.8 million roof repair project at Nashoba, according to the newspaper.
