Chelmsford War Heroes Honored by French Government

Chelmsford's Walter Hedlund and William Poulios were appointed as Chevaliers in the French Legion of Honor on Thursday for their actions during World War II to help liberate France.

Chelmsford's own Walter Hedlund and William Poulios were honored in front of a packed house at the Chelmsford Center of the Arts on Thursday as French Consul-General for Boston Fabien Fieschi awarded the pair with medals inducting them into the French Legion of Honor.

The award was given for the role of both men in the liberation of France during World War II and follows their already numerous medals including multiple purple hearts, silver star citations and other military decorations.
