Kronos Relocating from Chelmsford by Summer 2017

The town's largest private employer has announced plans to relocate its headquarters, but will remain in the area.

CHELMSFORD, MA - Kronos has announced that it will move its Chelmsford headquarters to Lowell by summer 2017.

Rumors that Kronos, a global workforce management solutions firm, might relocate its Chelmsford workforce began circling earlier this year. CEO Aron Ain said at that time that Kronos had enjoyed “fantastic growth” in 2015 and was poised to continue that growth in 2016, a situation that could require more space than the Billerica Road headquarters could provide.

In a press release, Kronos announced it has entered into a 12-year lease with Cross Point towers in Lowell. The company plans to occupy nearly 400,000 square feet of space in the entire first tower. Kronos currently houses about 1,200 employees in 322,000 square feet across three buildings in Chelmsford.

“After a thorough assessment of current employee commute patterns and available real estate, we selected Lowell as our future home,” Ain said in a press release. “Relocating to Cross Point will unite all local employees under one roof in an entire tower that’s befitting of our WorkInspired culture, passion for innovation, and collaborative and curious Kronite nature.”

As part of the move, Kronos and Cross Point owners Anchor Line Partners, plan to invest $40 million to design and build out the new Kronos headquarters.

Kronos hired more than 200 local employees in 2015 and expects to hire more than 1,000 more across the company in 2016. Several hundred current job openings are based in Massachusetts, according to the press release.

“The new space will provide a plethora of amenities to Kronites in an ultra-modern, high-tech, eco-friendly space that will help us continue to attract and retain top talent while accommodating future growth plans,” Ain said.

Kronos was founding in Brighton, Mass., in 1977 and opened its Chelmsford headquarters in 2000.

“As we set our sights on moving to Lowell, we are thankful to the town of Chelmsford for being a wonderful home to Kronos for many years,” Ain said.
