After opening up a double digit lead early, the Chelmsford High School girls basketball team held on late for a playoff win.
The Chelmsford High School girls basketball team opened up a double digit first quarter lead on Thursday night. But Boston Latin wouldn't go away, forcing the Lady Lions to go down to the wire to earn a playoff win.
Playing on its home court in front of a large and spirited crowd, Chelmsford hung on to beat Boston Latin, 46-44, in the opening round of the North Division 1 tournament.
Thanks to the win, the fifth-seeded Lions advanced to the quarterfinals where they will travel to take on No. 4 Woburn on Sunday night. Tip off in that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The winner of Sunday's game will take on either top-ranked Lynn English or No. 9 Billerica in the bracket semifinal.
