Late Chelmsford Woman Was Member of Red Hat Society
Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Hirt, 74, passed away on August 2 at her Chelmsford home surrounded by family.

Elizabeth Ann “Liz” (Cole) Hirt, age 74, died on August 2, 2014 at her home in Chelmsford among loving family members. She was the beloved wife of Charles F. “Chuck” Hirt, to whom she was married for 51 years.
She was born in Hornell, NY on August 22, 1939, and was a daughter of the late Chester and Louise (Clark) Cole. She received her education in Hornell, NY schools and was a graduate of Hornell High School and St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
Liz was employed for many years as a Registered Nurse at Lowell General Hospital. After retiring from LGH, she worked as a home post natal nurse and later as a school nurse.
She was an active member of St. Mary Parish in Chelmsford. She was a member of the parish’s Baptism Preparation Committee and a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Mary Church and Lowell General Hospital. She was also a member of The Red Hat Society in Chelmsford.
Liz was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time in the company of her loving family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Teresa Quinno and her husband James of Georgetown and three sons, Joseph Hirt and his wife Andrea of Vancouver, WA, Timothy Hirt of Lowell, and Ryan Hirt and his wife Amanda of Melrose; eleven grandchildren; a great grandson; two brothers, Robert Cole and his wife Linda of Canisteo, NY and Andris Cole and his wife Barbara of Westminster, MD; three sisters, Christine Cavaletti and her husband August of Hornell, NY, Susan Cawley and her husband Robert of Hornell, NY, and Ann Kloss and her husband Richard of Canisteo, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Valerie E. Hirt who died in 1974 and the sister of the late Phillip Cole, Margaret Hamilton-Clarke, and Nancy Lewis.
Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Thursday from 4 until 8 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will be private in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Liz’s name to St. Mary Church Sanctuary Fund, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824 or to Covenant House New York, 460 West 41st Street, New York, NY 10036
