Mass. State Police Release Info on Fatal Peabody Crash

A Wakefield man died in a car crash.

The Massachusetts State Police released information on a fatal accident in town:

The identity of the operator of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash on Route 95 in Peabody yesterday is JAMES ROBERTO, 65, of Wakefield.


The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

On Thursday at about 7:15 a.m., State Police from the Andover barracks responded to a single-vehicle, rollover crash on Route 95 southbound at Exit 44 in Peabody which resulted in a fatality.


Preliminary investigation by Trooper Roland Cormier indicates that a man was traveling on Route 95 southbound in a 2016 GMC Terrain when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle entered the breakdown lane and struck the guardrail. As a result of that collision, the vehicle rolled over, ejecting the operator from the vehicle in the process. The operator was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. State Police were assisted on scene by Peabody Fire and EMS and MassDOT.


The name of the operator is being withheld at this time pending confirmation of his identity and family notification.
