Melrose Boys Hockey Pulls Away Late to Knock Out Chelmsford
Two third period goals allowed Melrose to pull away from the Lions at Chelmsford Forum on Wednesday night.
The Chelmsford High School boys hockey season came to an end on Wednesday night on home ice as Melrose dominated play and advanced to the North Division 1 quarterfinals.
While the Lions trailed just 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two frames, Melrose pulled away with two goals in the final period to snag a 4-0 victory at Chelmsford Forum.
Melrose entered the game as the No. 4 seed in the bracket thanks to a record of 12-4-5 on the year. The win set up a meeting with fellow Middlesex League team Reading on Saturday.
Following the loss, Chelmsford's season comes to an end with a record of 9-7-6. The Lions had entered the game as the tournament's No. 13 seed.
Wednesday served as the final high school game for nine seniors. Chris Robinson, Matt Calnan, Thomas Stolki, Jack Olson, Joe Whitman, Jesse Lye and tri-captains Danny Ferri, Mike DeDonato and Connor McCarthy will all graduate this year.
