North Chelmsford's Ryan Scarfo Signs With AHL's Hershey Bears
Scarfo, who attended Governor's Academy in Byfield, enters his sixth pro hockey season after a standout collegiate career at Union College.
HERSHEY, PA — North Chelmsford native Ryan Scarfo has signed with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), the team announced last week.
Scarfo, 28, signed with Hershey — the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals — after playing this past season with the Rochester Americans, also in the AHL.
During the 2020-21 season, Scarfo, a center, recorded four goals and eight assists for 12 points, while playing in 63 games for a Rochester team that made the Calder Cup playoffs.

Scarfo, who attended the Governor's Academy in Byfield and Union College, also has seen time in the AHL with the Belleville Senators and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He has recorded 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 128 career AHL games.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Scarfo also has played in the ECHL with the Brampton Beast and Wheeling Nailers during his five-year professional hockey career.

In a 2020-21 Rochester Americans season preview on diebytheblade.com, Scarfo was described as "a versatile, defensive forward who can slot in as a wing or center."
At Union College, Scarfo wore the "A" as the alternate captain in three of his four seasons.
Scarfo's most productive year offensively at Union was his senior campaign in 2017-18, when he led the Dutchmen with 20 goals and 36 points and was fifth on the team with 16 assists.
