Emergency responders requested a medical helicopter, but that request was canceled after Conlon’s condition was deemed too unstable for the trip. He was instead taken by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital where he died at about 5 p.m. as a result of his injuries.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Conlon appeared to have been in a crosswalk when he was struck, but it remains unknown whether he had the “safe to cross” light.

The driver of the Ford pickup that struck Conlon was a 45-year-old man from Hudson, N.H. who cooperated with police. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected and no charges have been filed at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office
