'Tow Drunk to Drive' Initiative Aims to Curb Drunk Driving This Season
Too much to drink at a party or establishment in Chelmsford this holiday season? The police and a local towing company can help you get home

The Chelmsford Police Department’s Police Athletic League is partnering with Christopher’s Towing Company, of Chelmsford, to offer free tows and rides to those who have had too much to drink at a party or establishment in Chelmsford during the holiday season.
The initiative, called “Tow Drunk To Drive,” runs from Nov. 25 through Jan. 1. Participants can contact the Chelmsford Police Department or Christopher’s Towing Company, which will dispatch a tow truck to provide a free tow and ride to anyone who has had too much to drink, no questions asked.
“Safety is always our number one priority, and we want to ensure that our residents can enjoy their holiday without taking the risk of getting behind the wheel after drinking,” Chelmsford Police Chief James Spinney said. “We have lost too many lives as a result of drunk driving and hope this program discourages this. It is always smart to plan ahead of holiday celebrations, but I strongly encourage residents who find themselves without a safe ride home to take advantage of this program. There is zero tolerance for drunk driving.”

Through this program, Christopher’s Towing will pick participants up, along with their vehicle, and drop them off anywhere in the Merrimack Valley. Police would like participants to note that they will be taken home, not to another party or establishment and their cars must be operable.
The Chelmsford Police Department’s Police Athletic League will donate $20 to a worthy cause for every person who utilizes the “Tow Drunk To Drive” program.
