Wild sculptures race through Lowell in a wacky celebration of art, engineering, and fun.

The eighth annual 10K Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race (LKSR) takes over the city of Lowell, Massachusetts, on Saturday, September 20th for a free family-friendly day-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and fun for participants and spectators alike.

15 different teams from around New England and the U.S. will converge on Lowell to compete for an event that puts the TEAM in STEAM and brings a smile to both spectators and racers alike.

Teams, with names that include The Aluminum Falcon, Vikings of the Merrimack River, Moose, and Needs More Cowbell, have built whimsically engineered Kinetic Sculptures; human-powered, all-terrain vehicles made from new and repurposed materials. The course in Lowell brings the amphibious kinetic sculptures through Bone-Shaker Alley (cobblestoned Middle St), the Maddening Mud Pit, and the Merrimack Plunge, aka a dip into the Merrimack River.

9am-11am Market Street in Lowell- Meet the Machines w/music by The Party Band and performances by Cirque de Light

11:30am-4pm on Market Street- Family Fun Zone activities and music

Noon- 4pm DCR Lowell Heritage State Park Food Trucks and music

11am on Market Street- Opening Ceremonies (unlike anything you’ve seen before)

11:30am on Middle Street -Start of the Race on Bone-Shaker Alley

Noon at 581 Merrimack St (Jeanne d’Arc Credit Union ) Race continues through The Maddening Mud Pit

1:30pm DCR Lowell Heritage State Park Water Obstacle in the Merrimack River

3-4:30pm Market Street Sculptures cross the Finish Line

5pm at Warp & Weft (197 Market St) Awards Ceremony & After Party
