DEDHAM, MA — It's a cold and cloudy Tuesday and things won't be warming up soon. The weekend will host the highest temperatures in the low 50s, but that bit of warmth comes with a chance for rain or even snow.
In Dedham, the story of three brothers' experiences fighting in the Civil War are being told first-hand in a new book that published their letters home. The Lathrop brothers wrote scores of letters home to their mother and more than 150 years later, the Lathrop letters come to life in the new book, "My Dear Mother: Civil War Letters to Dedham from the Lathrop Brothers."
In 1928, a descendant of the brothers donated a package of some 100 letters to the Dedham Historical Society. Three years ago, volunteers began the painstaking process of transcribing the letters for publication.
