Dedham Man Arrested in Boston for Illegal Gun Possession

Boston Police charged Jobanny Garcia with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A Dedham man is facing illegal gun charges after police stopped him for operating a motor vehicle with excessive window tint in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood late Friday night.

Police stopped 25-year-old Jobanny Garcia, of Dedham, in the area of Bowdoin and Oakley Streets after observing the tinted windows. Officers noticed a second male in the vehicle who was known to police.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers spotted a loaded Jimenez Arms model J.A. Nine 9mm firearm in plain view on the rear seat. Officers seized the firearm. Both men were arrested because neither of them could produce a license to carry.

Officers also used a tint meter to measure the tint on the car windows and found the tint to be in excess of the legal limit, police said.

Garcia was issued a civil citation for excessive tint. Additionally, he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammo.

The passenger, Tiyreek McAfee, 21, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammo. The arrest marked his second firearm arrest, police said.
