Dedham police earlier this week arrested a Boston man on charges of breaking and entering after they responded to a commercial burglar alarm on Providence Highway, Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said in a statement Thursday.
Around 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, Dedham officers responded to the alarm, and, upon arrival, saw a rear office window had been forced open. As they entered the building, they saw that drawers and cabinets had been opened and “disheveled” on the first floor, with items strewn about. Officers later located a man getting on a bicycle on the opposite side of the building, and after police ordered him to stop, he began to ride away toward a nearby auto dealership, where he got off the bike and in doing so damaged a new vehicle in the lot. He then ran on foot toward the woods.

Officers quickly found the man, Joseph Rose, 42, of Boston, and ordered him to exit the woods and surrender. They subsequently arrested him on charges of breaking and entering into a building at night, possession of “burglarious instruments” and vandalism of property.
Rose reportedly had been carrying a backpack, which contained several identification cards not belonging to him, as well as a brown wallet and credit cards from the business into which he allegedly broke, among other items. He had also been allegedly carrying a set of headphones from the business, as well as a set of mini portable speaker and another wallet. Officers discovered he had a pair of needle-nose pliers, broken scissors and plastic gloves.

“I would like to commend our officers, working during the early morning hours for their quick response, which resulted in the successful arrest of a suspect,” d’Entremont said in a statement. “Dedham has strong neighborhoods and a vibrant business community, and a show of force like this shows that the Dedham Police Department will not tolerate burglars in our community.”
