Dedham Police Warn of Publisher's Clearing House Scam
Police are warning residents after an elderly woman fell victim to a recent scam.

Police in Dedham are warning residents after and an elderly woman fell prey to a Publisher’s Clearing House scam, officials say.
The victim received something in the mail that appeared to be legitimate. A short time later, a check was sent to her, which she deposited. However, before the check had time to clear or be rejected by the bank, the scammer requested a Western Union Check be mailed to cover taxes and fees, police say. In this particular case, the resident mailed cash.
Police would like to warn residents to be aware of such scammers. They say legitimate prize companies will never give money then ask for a percentage back.
