Driveway Repair Scam Targets Dedham Homeowners

Police are asking Dedham residents to be on the lookout for those conducting a door-to-door driveway repair scam.

The Dedham Police Department is warning residents of an ongoing driveway repair scam. Solicitors have been traveling door-to-door in an attempt to sell fraudulent services.

An area paving company has been reportedly telling customers that they just did a job in the neighborhood and that they have left over asphalt. The solicitors are offering a great price and can be insistent and forceful in their negotiations, police say.

Police would like to remind residents that legitimate companies do not conduct business in such a manner. These companies frequently target the elderly.

The suspects keep reducing their price to make the deal appear better, police say. They quote a price and then when the final bill is handed over it can be as much as four times the original estimate.

Often times these companies will place the pavement over existing damaged driveways without proper preparations. The job looks great, but the work tends not to last long and will begin to break down after just a few years.
