Officer Injured in Boston Shootout Was Honored at the White House in 2014
The Norwood High School graduate was shot in the face Friday night.

A Boston police officer was shot in the face and two other people were also shot, in a confrontation in Roxbury Friday night, officials said. One of other people shot was killed.
Boston Globe reported that the incident began when police stopped a car on Humboldt Avenuenear Crawford Street. The stop led to gunfire that killed one suspect and left another person with minor wounds, Police Commissioner William B. Evans said.

The officer was identified as Officer John T. Moynihan. The 34-year-old was shot under the eye and was taken to Boston Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

“My thoughts and prayers continue to be with Officer John Moynihan, his family, friends, the innocent person caught in the crossfire and the entire community impacted by Friday night’s violence,” Mayor Walsh said Saturday in a press release. “I have spoken with Officer Moynihan’s family and Commissioner Evans and I am hopeful that under the experienced and talented team at Boston Medical Center the Officer will continue on a strong path to recovery. It is clear that Officer Moynihan is a hero for our city, and the entire nation, and today we are thankful for all of those who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.”
Moynihan is a six-year veteran of the Boston Police Department and was honored at the White House last year and received the 2014 Top Cop Award for his response to the Watertown shootout with the Boston Marathon bombers, according to WMUR.
The suspect was also shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. A third female victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to Boston Medical Center.
Boston police are continuing to investigate the shootout.
