Opinion: Dedham Resident Supports Lisa Moran For Parks And Rec.

In a letter to the editor, Marianne Martin tells residents why she believes Lisa Moran is the right woman for the job.

A letter to the editor from Dedham resident Marianne Martin:

If ever there was a person perfectly suited to serve on the Dedham Park and Recreation Commission, it is Lisa Moran!

Like many town departments and services, the Dedham Recreation Department has its fair share of back seat drivers – those who think they know better. They complain about service constraints, field limitations or program offerings. Few, if any, of these critics offer comprehensive, fiscally responsible solutions to address their observational critiques. Even less roll up their sleeves and try to be part of the solution.

Not Lisa Moran. Lisa Moran does; where others complain.

A quick look at Lisa’s resume summarizes her professional skill level and accomplishments, which in and of itself, would benefit the Recreation Department. However, what truly distinguishes Lisa Moran is her “money-where-her-mouth-is" actions, attitube and aptitude.

Lisa is an active, reliable, and constant champion of many community programs.

I met Lisa about 20 years ago at the Dedham Pool where our sons swam on the Dedham Recreation Clipper swim team. The Dedham Clippers sets the bar for what a youth program should be. It is inclusive, educational and fun. Unfortunately, as with most youth programs, many children participate, but only a handful of parents step up and actively support the program. Lisa not only steps up, but follows through and adds value addressing program needs. Lisa works (I mean works!!!) everything from the snack bar to the website to the banquets. I witness the same level of commitment serving Dedham Youth Baseball, Town Meeting, and a number of Dedham community service activities. If there is a need, Lisa is the go-to person who gets it done. To say that Lisa is a ball of positive energy may be the greatest understatement of all time.

Lisa, however, is more than a hard worker. She is smart. Lisa is proactive, not reactive. Almost before the rest of us identify the need for something to be improved or completed, Lisa has already identified and addressed the issue. Dedham has been her benefactor more than once! Lisa has a keen sense of process improvement and a track record of project completion. In all the years I have known Lisa, I have never once witnessed her approach a situation without a well-thought, strategic plan of attack. And Lisa listens to others. Lisa evaluates the alternatives from every angle. Lisa champions the best solution and she sees these efforts through to completion.

I have every confidence in Lisa’s abilities. I trust her judgment. I know that when Lisa is “all in” on anything – she is all in! The Dedham Recreation Department would benefit and grow from her leadership, business acumen, sound judgment and hands on commitment to all its challenges. Please join me in supporting Lisa Moran as our next Parks and Recreation Commission.
