Bike Ride Commemorating 9/11 Anniversary To Begin In Dover
The ride commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11 will go from Dover to the Hatch Shell in Boston on Sept. 11, 2011.
This September marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. While it is a date no one in the world will ever forget, 9/11 has special significance for Boston, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC.
Susan Retik was seven months pregnant with her third child when her husband David was killed on American Flight 11, leaving her a widow. This September, Susan will lead a commemorative 3-day bike ride from Ground Zero to Boston called Beyond the Bike. An elite group of riders will embark on the full 3 day ride and will be joined by riders from throughout New England in Dover, MA for the final 25 mile commemorative ride into Boston.
This ride is being held in honor of the victims and rescuers that lost their lives on that day. This ride will also be a celebration of the countless acts of courage and humanity that have marked the decade since.

Founders Ride will begin on September 9, 2011 from Ground Zero in New York and will end at the Hatch Shell in Boston, The Founders Ride is 270 miles. Commemoration Ride will begin at 12:00 PM on September 11, 2011 in Dover, MA, and will finish at the Hatch Shell in Boston. The Commemoration Ride is 25 miles. Proceeds from Beyond the Bike will go to furthering the mission of Beyond the 11th, a non-profit established by Susan Retik and Patti Quigley to help support impoverished widows in Afghanistan.
Beyond the 11th is a non-profit organization located in Needham, MA that empowers widows in Afghanistan who have been afflicted by war, terrorism, and oppression. Beyond the 11th supports programs that enable widows to support themselves by teaching them the critical job skills needed to lift themselves out of poverty and oppression. To date, Beyond the 11th has helped turn around the lives of approximately 10,000 Afghan widows and their children.
