Boys Basketball Wins Season Opener Over Hopkinton [VIDEO]

In a game dominated by fouls and sloppy play the Raiders came out on top.

The Raiders started off their 2011-'12 campaign with a huge win over last season's Tri-Valley League co-champion Hopkinton Tuesday night.

D-S won, 53-41, beating the Hillers in a sloppy game that saw a combined 46 team fouls called throughout.

Both teams were frustrated as the referees had their whistles out for the entire game. However, both were penalized evenly with 23 team fouls apiece.

Junior Ned Linehan led the Raiders with 15 points. Steve Alessandro, Chris Flight, Nate Jenkins and Oliver Kelley each chipped in with 8 points apiece on the night for D-S.

For the Hillers, captain Jason Dlugolecki scored 15 points, while junior Rolly Muench added 7 points.

The Raiders led by as many as 14 points in the game.

For Hopkinton, it was their free throw shooting that may have cost them the game. The Hillers made seven out of 23 free throws on the night, while D-S made an efficient 14 out of 20.

D-S (1-0) will have another TVL matchup on Friday when they head to to face the Lancers at 6:30 p.m.
