D-S Schools To Open Sept. 1

Dover-Sherborn Public Schools will open tomorrow for the first day of school.

After delaying the first day of school due to safety concerns by school administrators, Dover-Sherborn schools will open their doors September 1.

D-S Public Schools Superintendent Valerie Spriggs decided yesterday to the first day of school, which would have been Aug. 31, due to the conditions of the roads and the number of residents in both towns without power from .

Today Spriggs said that crews have made enough progress in the clean up from the hurricane to the point where she is comfortable opening school tomorrow.

"NSTAR continues to work on Sherborn roads and progress has been made. It is hopeful all roads for both towns will be open for tomorrow morning. If parents are in doubt or have additional concerns please make arrangements to transport your child/children to school," Spriggs said.

NSTAR is continuing to work in both towns to restore power to residents.

According to Spriggs, approximately 7% of Dover residents remain without electricity and approximately 17% of Sherborn residents are without electricity.
