Brian Chapman, of Lowell, has been appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker to serve as a member of the Middlesex Community College Board of Trustees.

“I am excited to join the Middlesex Community College Board of Trustees,” Chapman said. “The college is such an important part of the educational fabric of Greater Lowell! I hope to assist in strengthening those bridges that MCC has already built in the Greater Lowell community.”

President and Founder of Mill City Environmental, Chapman has worked for over three decades in the field of environmental services. A Lowell High School alum, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

An active Lowell community member, he also sits on the Board of Trustees for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell, Inc.; Collegiate Charter School of Lowell; Lowell Cemetery; Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust; Greater Lowell Community Foundation; Trustees of the Ayers Home; Lowell Five Board of Directors; Lowell General Hospital Board of Governors; Lowell High Distinguished Alumni Committee; and Lowell Athletics and Activities Foundation.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brian as a new Trustee,” said Phil Sisson, MCC’s President. “He truly understands the communities we serve and what opportunity gaps exist at the college and how we are working to close those gaps. His experience and track-record of success – as well as his dedication to supporting local Lowell organizations and institutions – will work to heighten our offerings at the college and lend to the overall success of our students.”

Chapman has previously worked at Foster Wheeler Environmental in Boston and Clean Harbors Environmental Services in Braintree. He and 2021-2022 Student Trustee Brooke Stevenson, of Winchester, were sworn in by the Board of Higher Education in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, October 6.

An MCC Criminal and Social Justice and Paralegal Studies major, Stevenson is hoping to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable college experience for all students. She looks forward to participating in “open and progressive dialogue” during her time on the Board of Trustees.

“I am honored that my fellow students have trusted me with this prestigious role,” she said. “I do not take it lightly and will do everything in my power to best represent the student body.”

Chapman and Stevenson join current members of the MCC Board of Trustees, including Chairman James J. Campbell of Lowell, Linda Banks-Santilli of Waltham, Alec A. Belanger of Billerica, James H. Campanini of Lowell, Cheryl E. Howard of Reading, Steven Iem of Lowell, Bopha Malone of Bedford, Annie O’Connor of Lowell, and Kathleen Plath of Tyngsboro.
