Peter Caruso Throws Hat in Ring for Sherborn Selectmen Seat
The following is a letter to the editor from Sherborn Selectmen Candidate Peter Caruso.
To The Editor and To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to announce my candidacy for the vacancy being left by George Pucci on the Sherborn Board of Selectmen.
Why would anybody want to be a Selectman?

As I see it, Sherborn faces many challenges, most of which can become opportunities. The Town has a wonderful history, and I believe I can bring something valuable to the table to ensure it has a wonderful future.
Thanks to my years as Vice Chair of the Advisory Committee, where I also served as Advisory’s liaison to the Pine Hill and the Regional School systems, attending most school committee meetings over a three year period, I had the good fortune to work with many great people and learn a great deal about the financial and operational workings of most Town and School endeavors.

I know much. And I know there is much to learn.
As most residents understand, much of Sherborn’s success depends on the hard working volunteerism of so many in Town. Over the years I have tried to be involved in some volunteer activity, from coaching youth sports, to leading cub scouts, to running a junior sailing program in Scituate, our home away from home, and of course to my tenure on Advisory. Volunteerism is a very good example to set for my children and a rewarding way to give back to the community.
At this point, I think being on the Board of Selectmen would make the best use of my abilities and experience. Besides, if others can do it personally and professionally, then I should be able to.
Personally, my wife Cathy and I have lived in Sherborn over 25 years. Our 4 children (Pam, Janet, PD, and Katie) have been raised here, 3 having gone from Pre-school all the way through DS, with Katie now in the 9th grade at the Region. Thanks to 18 years straight at Pine Hill and I can’t even count the number of years at the Region, we know the value of a DS education. We also know the value of a multi-faceted community.
Professionally, I have a BA from Bucknell and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Northeastern. I spent a number of years as a CPA at what is now PricewaterhouseCoopers, going on to become CFO of one of my clients, PUMA, where my time was spent successfully helping the troubled company turn around its brand image and financial performance. Since then I have been involved in other turnarounds and startups at the CFO, COO and CEO levels, including two innovative education startups. Most recently I have founded my own company, which has a patented energy saving product for industrial and agricultural facilities sold world-wide.
I have made a career of doing the most with limited resources. And have managed to see the forest while also seeing the veins on the leaves of the trees in meeting all my professional challenges. I get the details and I get the big picture, past, present, and future.
So why me? Why now? Ed is a great choice, brings great experience, and I would whole heartedly support his success if he is the voters’ choice. I think I can bring unique experience, expertise, wisdom, integrity, and a sense of humor to the role. And I would welcome the opportunity to work with Paul and Tom.
It’s simple, I want to ensure Sherborn is viable for the long term so my children and future grandchildren can have the opportunity to enjoy what we have been so fortunate to enjoy over the last 25+ years. I will do my best to ask the right questions and find the right solutions.
I am ready, willing, and able to serve all residents and stakeholders in Town. I offer sensible leadership and would welcome your support at Caucus and at Town Election.
Respectfully,
Peter D. Caruso
