"Providing our towns with local aid is a top priority for the Legislature," said Representative Linsky.

Representative  David P. Linsky (D-Natick) and Senator Richard Ross (R-Wrentham) announced today that Sherborn has received $13,247 in additional local aid. This additional funding brings Sherborn’s Unrestricted General Government Aid to the Fiscal Year 2011 level.

Yesterday Governor Patrick signed a supplemental budget that authorized the disbursement of additional local aid funds to cities and towns.  This funding is unrestricted and can be used by the town for local services including public safety, transportation and public works.

“Providing our towns with local aid is a top priority for the Legislature,” said Representative Linsky. “Restoring this funding affirms the state’s commitment to ensure that municipalities can maintain core services.”

During the Fiscal Year 2012 budget debate $65 million in Unrestricted General Government Aid was held because of significant concerns over the revenue levels coming into the state. The Department of Revenue has certified that state has received adequate revenue to restore local aid to municipalities.

“I am so pleased that I was given the opportunity to help return additional local aid to our cash-strapped cities and towns,” said Senator Ross. “I thank my colleagues for their bipartisan collegiality in support of this important amendment.”
