• Hundreds of Sea Turtles Are Freezing in Cape Cod (progressive-charlestown.com) — Cold-stunned sea turtles are washing up on Cape Cod, including beaches in Eastham and nearby Brewster, where volunteers are rescuing hundreds of animals this season. Scientists link the surge in strandings to warming Gulf of Maine waters and long-term climate shifts, while local and regional rehab centers work for months to nurse the weakened turtles back to health. 
• Rare Bird Rescue After Fierce Storm Hits SouthCoast (fun107.com) — A rare tropical Purple Gallinule was rescued in New Bedford after last week’s fierce SouthCoast storm, echoing a similar sighting in Eastham back in 2010. Wildlife experts at the New England Wildlife Center are treating the exhausted bird for dehydration and malnourishment, then plan to work with MassWildlife to return it to a more suitable climate.
