Help us raise money (20% of the sales will be for transportation) for the Youth Ministry of the Easton Holy Cross who will be going this summer to Appalachia (one of the poorest regions in the US) to help fix homes for the families there. Many do not have working bathrooms, proper roofs or walls for their growing families.
"In the hills of central Appalachia, up winding, mountain roads, is a place where children and families face unthinkable conditions, living without what most Americans take for granted. Isolated pockets in central Appalachia have three times the national poverty rate, an epidemic of prescription drug abuse, the shortest life spans in the nation, toothlessness, cancer and chronic depression."
3. Harlem Superstarts at Southeastern
Tonight at 6 p.m.:
The public is welcome to attend the Harlem Superstars Showtime Basketball, a family fun experience, made possible through the collaborative efforts of Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School students from Marketing, Design and Visual Communications (DVC), Video Production and Graphics. These talented basketball players will play against the Southeastern Dream Team of students, teachers and staff. The fundraising event will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 6:00 pm at the high school gym on 250 Foundry St., South Easton. Proceeds will help defray transportation costs for a field trip to New York City designed to reinforce school studies for Business Marketing students.
The Harlem Superstars are talented basketball players whose main mission is to entertain kids and their families through show time basketball. Beyond their entertainment value, they provide a positive message to students on education, respecting others, setting goals, working hard, listening to parents and teachers, staying away from drugs and alcohol, character building and peer pressures.
The evening magic comes alive as the Harlem Superstars go through their series of antics and comedy routines, along with great basketball playing. Direct audience participation is an important aspect of every show with fan to player interaction, autograph sessions, tricks, music, slam dunks, dancing and high-fives, to name a sample of interactions you may see at the game.
Southeastern Dream Team selection of teachers and students has begun with Mr. Comeau, Mr. Rose, Ms. Fallon and Mr. Campbell. Students who participated in selling tickets and promoting the event will complete the roster of Dream Team players to challenge the Harlem Superstars. SRVTHS Athletic Director Daniel Tripp will assume the role of Celebrity Referee.
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $8 through the school store’s online website www.sersd.org/students/store, from Business and Marketing teacher Mr. Andrew Thurston or any Marketing student. Tickets may be available for purchase at the door for $10.
