The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 identified Monsini, Sunday, adding that he had been a member of the union for 20 years. Family and close friends gathered Sunday in Brockton for Monsini's wake.

Since the accident, all service to Haymarket Station has stopped, and Green Line train service remains suspended between North and Government Center Stations. According to officials, more debris needs to be removed from the tracks before inspectors can check the tunnels.

Orange Line service did resume last Tuesday, but Haymarket Station remains closed.

The garage, which has been under construction for years, is being demolished so a new residential tower at 50 New Sudbury Street can exist in the Haymarket area.

"Peter Monsini was a classmate and a friend. He was a lifelong Brocktonian who worked in the construction and demolition industry his entire life," Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan said. "Our City mourns his loss and my condolences go out to his family, fellow union members, and friends."

In the wake of his death, Monsini's family released a statement:

"We are in shock and trying to process the loss of Peter. He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend. He was full of life, passionate, thoughtful, and will be missed deeply by his family and partner Alicia. We want to thank the Boston Police, Fire and EMS and all responders who came to Peter’s aid. We also want to thank Operating Engineers Local 4 as well as our neighbors, friends and well-wishers near and far for the kind words we have received. As we begin to come to grips with our loss, we respectfully request privacy and peace at this time."
