Letter to the Editor: Smith Would Bring Business Acumen, Integrity, and Social Responsibility

A letter of support for Dan Smith

Dear Editor:

I am privileged to write to you in order to express my support for Dan Smith as selectman of the town of Easton. I have known Dan through working with him in a relationship between my company, Retroficiency, and Siemens, where Dan is an Energy Executive. Dan Smith will bring business acumen, integrity, and social responsibility to the selectman position.

I met Dan through our children attending the same preschool, Creative World in Easton. We found that we had moved to Easton for similar reasons, one of which is the strength of the school system and the town’s commitment to a quality education. As the Co-Founder of a Science & Technology based company with 30 employees I recognize the importance providing the great teachers of Easton the resources they need to keep our children ahead of the curve in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Dan Smith not only shares that commitment but is a passionate advocate for STEM and Early Education.

When we found that we were both in the business of helping reduce green house gas emissions the conversations quickly shifted from our kids, the weather, and the Patriots to how we each helped facilitate energy efficiency. His experience as an entrepreneur, prior to joining Siemens, gave him an open mind in listening how Retroficiency, an early stage start up, could help Siemens. He was willing to introduce and facilitate meetings with several executives at Siemens that have led to projects between the two companies. I think this open mindedness will serve the town of Easton well and help local businesses grow and thrive.

In addition, Dan’s social responsibility and passion for the environment will help guide Easton as the South Coast Rail rolls through town. Dan’s experience will be invaluable during the process of responsibly growing while preserving the environment. Such smart development will help maintain the beauty that makes Easton such a wonderful place to live. Dan will strike the right balance between growth and the environment.

To hear Dan speak the changes already taking place in Easton such as Queset Commons and the Shovel Shop project show me that he is passionate and excited about Easton and the potential that the next few years hold. As a resident I can think of no better person to serve the town of Easton as selectman.

Sincerely,

Bryan Long
