The River's Journey

My love, the river is wide,

The shores so steep, the waters deep.

The rushing sounds in the distance call,

Flashing waters, I approach it all.

A waterfall, a sight to behold,

But I must portage, brave and bold,

Carrying our canoe with care,

Along the trail, we're a perfect pair.

At the river’s edge, we decide to stay,

The waterfall beckons in its spray.

There you are, my love so bright,

Splashing in the water, pure delight.

The sun begins to fade from sight,

I light a fire, our hearts alight.

We laugh, we smile, our spirits high,

We feast on quail beneath the sky.

As night falls, we gaze above,

At stars that shine on us, my love.

The country’s beauty, wild and free,

It’s ours to cherish, you and me.

To Fort Laramie, our journey leads,

Where we'll rest and gather what we need.

But now, my love, let us be near,

For you’ve opened my eyes, brought me here.

A whole new world, I’ve found with you,

I’ll love you always, forever true.

Kiss me, my dear, goodnight tonight,

Warm and safe in the firelight.

Under blankets, close we lay,

With you, my love, I’ll always stay.

You’re my world, my heart’s delight,

I love you, my dear, with all my might.
