This month we're talking Martin Van Buren: First president born in the United States but English wasn’t his first language. 
This program will be recorded and is sponsored by the Library Board of Trustees and is in collaboration with Ashland Public Library and a multitude of MA and NH libraries.

VIRTUAL: Presidential Series with Doodler Heather Rogers - Martin Van Buren

Let us celebrate the Winter Solstice with the pairing of Pink Floyd’s classic album Dark Side of the Moon with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.This produces moments of apparent synchronicity where the film and album appear to correspond.The tradition is to play the album once, starting at the MGM lion’s third roar. After the album ends, the movie continues on its own.

Whimsical yellow brick roads weave in and out of Pink Floyd’s progressive rock masterpiece. Do you not believe it? Even more reason to come! The pairing has been both a music and film phenomena that Pink Floyd and producer have denied any intentional of a match-up. People have been pairing the two for decades, so whether it is your first or 100th time, it is always a new experience.

Falmouth Public Library will be running the “match-up” on Friday, December 19th (12/19/2025), from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Hermann Foundation Meeting Room. All are welcome, and we especially want to invite crafters of all kinds—particularly knitters and crotchetiest. Feel free to bring a project and work on it during the film. We will have hot cocoa and light refreshments to keep things cozy.

Falmouth Theatre Guild Announces Encore Production of RENT — Back by Popular Demand!FINAL WEEKEND!!!!
FALMOUTH, MA — The Falmouth Theatre Guild is thrilled to announce an encore presentation of Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking rock musical RENT, returning to the Highfield Theater stage for a limited engagement. After a sold-out and emotionally charged run, the Guild is bringing the production back by popular demand, giving audiences another chance to experience the power, passion, and message of this timeless story.
"When we first staged RENT, the response from our community was overwhelming," said Director Joan McKenzie-Baird. "The show struck a deep emotional chord — both with our cast and our audiences. Its message of love, resilience, and chosen family feels as relevant today as ever. We knew we had to bring it back one more time."
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, RENT tells the story of a group of young artists struggling to survive and create in New York City’s East Village under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. With its unforgettable score and raw emotional energy, RENT continues to inspire audiences to “measure their lives in love.”
The encore production features returning cast members from last year’s production. 
Performances will take place at Highfield Theater, 58 Highfield Drive, Falmouth, on the following dates: Friday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 -- &nbsp;Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2pm and 7:30pm -- Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2pm

The Woods Hole Community Hall

Solstice Singers presents “A Solstice Hallelujah,” a pageant of songs, instrumental music, drama and dance celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. 

Performed in colorful period costumes, the program includes pieces that could have been sung or heard at the time of our nation’s founding, both in America and in Europe. The musical selections include contemplative as well as festive pieces for the celebrations surrounding the longest night of the year. 

Solstice Singers will be joined by Ensemble Passacaglia, performing on an array of period instruments, as well as the children’s chorus Les Enfants du Soleil. An original mummers play rounds out the program, in which life is struck down by forces of evil (winter), only to spring to life again at the hands of a magical healer (spring). 

The two performances take place at the Community Hall in Woods Hole at 68 Water Street on Saturday and Sunday, December 20 and 21, both at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $25, $10 students, free under age 5, and are available at solsticesingers.org.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. There’s an emphasis on emotional intelligence, teaching kids how to manage their feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Our amazing helps kids learn to share, collaborate, and support one another, fostering a sense of community. The facility embraces children from all backgrounds and is sensitive to cultural differences, making sure all children feel accepted and valued. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
