Cape Cod Police Looking For Driver Who Fled Scene Of Car Accident

The accident sent one person to the hospital and closed a Cape Cod road for hours on Monday.

FALMOUTH, MA — A crash that caused a Cape Cod road closure on Monday morning is under investigation after it caused a small fire and damaged a power line.

On Monday, at 5:21 a.m., Falmouth Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at Thomas B. Landers Road and Geggatt Road. Officers arrived to find a Subaru Outback overturned against a utility pole and a Toyota Highlander with extensive damage in the roadway.

Falmouth Fire and Rescue also responded to assess injuries and monitor a small fire caused when the damaged power line struck nearby trees, police said. The Toyota’s operator was transported to Falmouth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the Subaru crossed into the Toyota’s lane, struck it, then hit the utility pole and overturned. The Subaru’s occupant fled before police arrival. A Mashpee Police K9 unit assisted in a search, but the operator and any additional occupants have not yet been identified as of 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations also responded to process the scene. Falmouth Police Detectives are assisting with the investigation.

Both vehicles were towed, and Eversource responded to replace the damaged utility pole.
