Cape Cod Town Records Another Positive West Nile Virus Sample

It's the fifth time this summer a mosquito sample from the town has returned a positive result for West Nile Virus.

FALMOUTH, MA — Mosquitoes tested in Falmouth have tested positive for West Nile Virus for the fifth time this summer.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) announced that West Nile Virus was detected in a mosquito sample collected from Falmouth on Aug. 26 at a sampling location in the vicinity of Woods Hole Road.

The last positive WNV mosquito samples detected in Falmouth were on Aug. 19 off of Woods Hole Road and Siders Pond.

Despite the five postive samples, no human cases have been detected in Falmouth.

"The Falmouth Health Department will continue to work closely with the MDPH and the Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project (CCMCP) on mosquito control efforts," officials said. "The location of the positive sample is routinely treated by the CCMCP and will continue to be an area of focus throughout the mosquito season."
