The Coast Guard rescued a a New York lobsterman who spent 12 hours floating in the water off Long Island on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.
John Aldridge, 45, fell off his lobster boat around 3 a.m. and was discovered using his boots to stay afloat nearly 40 miles from his boat.
"I was like, 'There's no way I'm dying this way.' I was like, 'This is how I gotta go?' No way," Aldridge told the Associated Press. "So I just put my head to thinking survival mode and I wasn't dying that way. Dying wasn't an option."
Aldridge was treated at the Falmouth Hospital for dehydration, exposure and hypothermia and released Thursday morning. Belated relatives drove him home to Long Island.
